Acne-Vulgaris is a disorder of sebaceous follicles that has multiple factors that contribute to its onset. It is associated with an increase in sebaceous gland activity, insufficient shedding of skin cells plugging the gland's duct and follicle. This becomes an oil rich medium for bacteria and leads to the formation of pustules and cysts.Click here to request a consultation and get started with one of our Registered Nurses.
The management of acne can be accomplished with a multitude of treatments. At Laser Aesthetics we use impulse light therapy and BLU-U light therapy to target acne. The red inflammation of acne creates a target for the light therapy. Our goal is to use light and heat therapy to destroy bacteria, increase circulation in the affected area and to decrease sebaceous activity.
Most treatments are pain-free and are fast to perform. Light based treatments offer the client an effective mode of
therapy without the use of antibiotics. It is recommended that clients should be treated twice a week for 4 weeks
or until they see significant improvement. It is important to stay ahead of the acne rather than let it worsen.
Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is an exciting treatment option approved for use in North America. Results are truly remarkable. You will experience improved skin texture, minimized pores, as well as enhanced reduction of brown and red spots that appear in sun damaged skin.
PDT is also a breakthrough for those suffering from various types of acne.

The PDT process for each client is basically the same. The skin is prepared and a solution, called Levulan, is topically applied to the skin. It is left on the skin for an incubation period. The solution is absorbed by the targeted lesions and a light then activates the solution which destroys the targeted cells. When used in conjunction with the blue light we can target the sebaceous glands and bacteria responsible for acne
The treatment takes approximately 60-90 minutes to complete and you can expect some redness, peeling and flaking of the skin for 3-4 days. While under the light source you will feel some warmth. It is important to know that you will need to stay indoors for 24 hours following the procedure. The solution applied to your skin remains active for this period of time.
If you are struggling with acne you must look at this new and exciting procedure. The number of treatments depends on the severity of the acne although most clients will go into remission with 3 treatments (6-12 weeks from the first treatment). Microdermabrasion can be an effective tool to enhance acne treatments depending on the degree of inflammation.
Chemical peels offer anti-bacterial agents as well as exfoliation. All of these options can be discussed with the
client at the time of consultation. Click here to request a consultation and get started with one

I had a lot of acne when I was a kid and unfortunately my kids seem to have inherited the same problem. I was getting frustrated trying to get an appointment with a dermatologist. When I finally got one, I was given some medication that I thought was quite strong and not right for me. After visiting Laser Aesthetics and being introduced to their photo dynamic therapy and BLU-U machine the results were almost immediate and the repeat treatments are easy to arrange. They were also wonderful at explaining the cause of the problem and how to resolve it. I'm going to tell all my friends.
